How it works
See what happens in a session.
Start with a movement that matters to you. We check it, introduce a gentle sensory input, and repeat the same check so you can compare what changes.
You describe what you feel throughout the session. You can ask questions, pause, or tell Shankar when something is uncomfortable.
Approximately one hour · Shavano Park or Zoom
A bareback rider describes what he noticed in his shoulder and talks about returning to rodeoing.

How we measure change
We select a safe movement or function that matters to you: standing, walking, bending, turning, or raising an arm. The same movement gives you a comparison.
- Starting point
Check a movement
Notice where you stop, how much effort it takes, or where discomfort appears. Describe it in your own words.
For example“Turning to the left feels tight here.”
- Your response guides us
Explore a gentle input
Shankar introduces a movement, touch-based, or other sensory input. You describe what you notice and help set the pace.
Stay involved“That feels comfortable.” Or, “I’d like to pause.”
- Compare
Repeat the same check
After each input, we repeat the same test. Compare the effort, range, and sensation, including anything that has not changed.
The useful question“What do you notice now?”
These examples explain the process. Your session starts with your own concern and follows your responses. When appropriate, follow-up helps us compare your response with everyday movement and activity.
Before you book
One appointment, with room to ask questions.
Meet Shankar Poncelet, Functional Neurologist, in Shavano Park or work with him from home by Zoom. Allow approximately one hour.
Bring a practical example: what feels difficult in daily life, when you notice it, and what you want to feel easier. Mention current care, recent changes, and any movement restrictions.
You do not need to retell difficult experiences or push through pain. You can ask to pause or change an input.
Common questions
A few things you may want to know.
How does a Zoom session work?
Shankar guides you through steps while you describe what you feel and compare movement before and after. Choose Zoom after selecting your appointment time, or text us if you want help deciding between remote and in-person.
What if movement or touch feels uncomfortable?
Tell Shankar before you begin and whenever your comfort changes. We can choose a different starting check, change an input, or pause. Your feedback is part of the session.
What do we compare?
The same movement or function you chose at the start. You might notice a difference in effort, restriction, guarding, or discomfort. Describe what changed and what did not, then discuss what to check in ordinary activity afterward.
Do I have to book a series?
No. Start with one appointment. Follow-up sessions are optional and discussed based on your experience.
Where can I read more about the approach?
